A scam artist posed as bank official, government official, lottery agent, representative of popular organization used a telephone to begin his trick. He used sweet talk as his convincing power to win your trust and ask financial information while in communication with you.
You were billed by the telephone company for a charge (with higher rates) compared to the rate of your regular phone company about a call that is not yours. If you will not scrutinize it clearly who made the fraudulent charges then he will continue making money from you.
This bill from telephone company is in exchange of doing service for you. For your protection, it is proper for you to review your statement of account, the series of calls, the originating number, the number he called. This is to determine if the call is legitimate from the person you know making a call for you. It may be an outside call (local or international).
It is important that you have to study your phone bills carefully. Don't pay immediately. Question the charges for a call you did not make. You are paying an expense that is not yours.
Crooks are always devising new ways to continue their trade. How it is being done?
-when you are being trick in telling you to switch to another long distance company.
-If you filled up a contest entry.
-by charging the authorized long distance company to unauthorized telephone carrier (other).
What will you do?
-Don't change any long distance provider (primary) without your written authorization.
-Review your phone bills every month and note any irregularities.
-Don't do a contest entries that authorizes you to switch in tiny print (telemarketers) who will record people saying "yes" as consent to an innocent question. This will be their valid proof that the customer they were notified approve the transfer to a new carrier.
-To play safe, ask your local phone company not to make any changes on your account without your written consent.
